chance
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 기회 | 명사 | a chance to do give someone a chance |
I had a chance to speak with the manager. |
| 가능성 | 명사 | a chance of + 명사/동명사 a chance that + 절 |
There is a good chance of rain. |
| 우연 | 명사 | by chance a chance meeting |
We met by chance at the airport. |
|---|---|---|---|
| chance | 시도할 기회 또는 결과가 생길 확률 | 일상 대화, 즉석 제안, 성공 가능성 | Do I have a chance to revise the report? |
| opportunity | 성장·발전·이익으로 이어질 수 있는 좋은 기회 | 채용, 교육, 승진, 공식 이메일 | This position offers an excellent opportunity for career growth. |
| possibility | 어떤 일이 발생하거나 사실일 수 있음 | 대안 검토, 위험 분석, 공식적인 논의 | We discussed the possibility of delaying the launch. |
- There is a chance that the shipment will be delayed.
- We should consider the possibility of a shipment delay.
- The internship is a great opportunity to gain experience.
I found the document by chance는 “문서를 우연히 발견했다”라는 뜻이며, by opportunity나 by possibility로 바꿀 수 없습니다.
△ Our company provides employees with chances for professional development.
○ Our company provides employees with opportunities for professional development.
Did you have a chance to ask a question?
A: Did you have a chance to review the sales report?
B: Yes, I looked at it this morning.
여기서 have a chance to do는 “할 기회나 시간이 나다”라는 회화 표현입니다.
A: Is there any chance that the client will change the meeting date?
B: It’s possible, but nothing has been confirmed.
Is there any chance that …? We are considering the possibility of changing the date처럼 possibility를 쓰는 편이 적절합니다.
Subject: Updated Vendor List
I found the attached vendor list by chance while organizing the shared folder. It may be useful for next month’s purchasing review.
-
매우 낮음 — little chance / almost no chance
There is little chance that the order will arrive today.
-
열려 있음 — a possibility / some chance
There is some chance that we may need additional staff.
There is a possibility that we may need additional staff가 더 분석적입니다.
-
상당히 높음 — a good chance
There is a good chance that the proposal will be approved.
-
높은 확신 — a strong likelihood / very likely
There is a strong likelihood that demand will increase next quarter.
There’s a very good chance that demand will increase라고 할 수 있습니다.
→ by chance
